I'm on an ever-going quest to find the perfect croissant in Paris. I do my own research and usually check out the winners at Sortir à Paris (which is where the city of Paris actually names the best croissants, flans, and other traditional French food).
I spend about two months out of the year in Paris, and a few years ago, I started mapping out three different boulangeries to visit each morning during my run. I try to arrive within 15 minutes of their opening time to ensure the croissants would be fresh. At each bakery, I would order a classic croissant, a pain au chocolat, and a third option like an almond croissant.
Currently, my favorite is Sas Boulangerie Moderne, which was awarded second place last year. Boulangerie Moderne has all of the things that I look for in a perfect croissant — incredibly flaky (they break into little flakes that melt in your mouth), buttery, tender, and not too sweet. Their pain au chocolat is also so good, I have teared up.
